This gallery offers the viewer images that capture both the spectacular and moody natural lighting effects for which Scotland's North-west Highlands are well known.

Living and working in the North-west Highlands gives me the time, with some good fortune also, to witness the astonishing lighting effects that occur, often very localised in their effect. When these moments happen, and I watch them develop, it is extraordinarily exciting, but at the same time I am absolutely focussed on the task of recording these events to the maximum extent possible in the capture medium being employed.To maximise my chance of capturing these events, it is necessary to have my camera equipment available at all times as I travel about. Even the most unpromising, gloomy, wet days with a howling wind, can suddenly transform into something magical.
Some of the images in this gallery are also available as greetings cards. Note that as the greetings card has a fixed format 6" x 4" (152mm x 101mm) photograph, a few images offered as greetings cards need a little cropping to fit the card format. You can be sure that this has been done with the greatest sensitivity to the composition of the image. I would not use an image for a greetings card if it could not be fitted sympathetically into the card format.
