Bounded by Loch Hourn, the Sound of Sleat and Loch Alsh, this part of the Scottish West Highland landscape is speared by Loch Duich running eight kilometres into this area. Near the entrance to Loch Duich is arguably the most iconic of all of Scotland's castles, Eilean Donan.
However this area offers far more than just a fine castle, it also boasts some of the finest West Highland scenery, as in the Five Sisters of Kintail seen from the Mam Ratagan pass, also many excellent views of Skye from various places. Near Glenelg we have the strong associations with Gavin Maxwell who wrote Ring of Bright Water, and nearby two iron-age Brochs to explore.
