Bounded by the Loch Hourne, the Sound of Sleat and Loch Alsh, this part of the West Highlands is speared by Loch Duich running five miles into this area. Near the entrance to Loch Duich is arguably the most iconic of all of Scotlands castles, Eilean Donan.
However this area offers far more than just a fine castle, it also boasts some of the finest West Highland scenery, as in the Five Sisters of Kintail seen from the Mam Ratagan pass, also many excellent views of Skye from various places. Near Glenelg we have the strong associations with Gavin Maxwell who wrote the Ring of Bright Water, and nearby two iron age Brochs to explore.
