Loch Leven & Glen Coe

This area is not one that I visit often, and as there are only a few images I have not considered this gallery to be part of the tour of the North-west Highlands. However, I do have some images, and they should be on display!

Glen Coe is a wild and dramatic place rather than exhibiting great beauty. It has a bleak aspect, but it makes all other glens seem quite tame, and it's majestic appearance is a magnet for artists trying to capture some of its imposing character.

It is also known as the Glen Of Weeping after the state sponsored massacre of 37 members of the MacDonald Clan in 1692. Sir John Dalrymple, Secretary of State For Scotland gave orders to Sir Thomas Livingstone, who commanded the army in Scotland, to destroy the clan, remarking ; "I hope the soldiers will not trouble the government with prisoners".
