General Travel Information
Public Transport in the North-west Highlands is available, but not as frequent as in the more populous areas of Scotland. A little planning is required beforehand to know what is available, when, and where. If you wish to use public transport, the list of websites below will help you find the services available.
There are guided coach tours, but if you want to have the freedom to go where you wish; these are your options, private car, cycling, walking, and hitch-hiking. Hitch hiking is a good way to get round the West Highlands, mostly you will find people friendly and willing to stop for you. However, in remote areas in the winter there can be few cars about and you could experience rough weather - be prepared! Be prepared in summer too!
Note that a few single-track roads may not be suitable for towing caravans or for large mobile homes.
