Loch Gairloch and the Torridons at dawn. This view on the Scottish north-west coast was taken from Lonemore in winter, a good time in the North-west Highlands for photography because of the clarity of light on good days, the low sun revealing the shape of the land, and not least, the absence of midgies!
On this occasion the light was very soft and low, perhaps the sun had not yet fully risen, leaving the hills as virtual silhouettes, devoid of nearly all detail apart from some snow lodged in the crevices.
The coast at Lonemore is one of my favourite places for landscapes as it combines all the elements that appeal to me, the coast, water and mountains. Although not shown in this view, one can easily include the township of Gairloch in the view, and this I have often done on other occasions.
