This extraordinary sunset was photographed on a very still, hot and sticky evening at the end of July. I stood on the hilltops above the NATO base at Loch Ewe on Scotland's north-west coast, quite amazed at the scene before my eyes.
It would have been quite sublime to watch this in awe, except for the fact that I was being attacked by thousands of Scottish midges at the time. They can drive you absolutely insane after a while, but I have my photograph now, and the pain is all in the past.
