Image Details
I had a commission to photograph the gardens surrounding a local hotel. It was summer, and because of the positioning of the hotel and gardens, I had decided the best time to do this was very late in the evening when the sun was low in the sky. At other times the gardens would be partly shaded by the hotel, and low sunlight is always attractive anyway.
I had completed the task, and en route home again as I passed the area known as Tournaig there was some very dramatic light and shade on the hills. Heavy clouds were rolling in over the mountains but lit up by the now very low sun. So I stopped off at a little lay-by over looking Tournaig. I was tempted to scout around for another viewpoint; it is just instinct to explore because sometimes small changes in viewpoint can lead to dramatic differences in the resulting image.
However, I was concerned that what I was seeing was so fleeting and could vanish at any moment and I decided just to take the images from the lay-by. This dramatic display lasted for just a few minutes during which I took lots of images of this constantly changing scene. I would pick the best image at leisure later.
