Image Details

I had been not far inland, in mostly unremitting gloom (which suited my purpose), and en route home I passed through the coastal village of Gairloch on the Scottish north-west coast, which to my surprise was bathed in brilliant sunshine. I stopped off at The Crasg, a well known viewpoint to survey the scene, and decided there was a nice picture postcard view of Gairloch Golf Course there for the photographing!.

Gairloch Golf course, nine holes, was founded in 1898 in a beautiful landscape right next to the beach and Loch Gairloch, and is overlooked by the Torridon mountains. This view taken in March reveals there was still quite a bit of snow on the mountaintops. Baos Bheinn to the left and Beinn Alligin to its right are the two most prominent mountains on view in this image.

The beach next to the golf course is a favourite with visitors to the area, and when you get tired of the beach there is a pleasant coastal walk from there, then over the hill, and down again to Gairloch Harbour.
